What to Expect During a Custom Closet Consultation

Marielle Robie • Jul 11, 2019

You and your family have decided that you would like to have custom closets installed in your home. If you’ve called Custom Storage Solutions, the first step toward having your storage area renovated is going to be your free in-home consultation. You might feel a bit apprehensive because you aren’t sure what to expect. The good news is that this visit is meant to be stress-free! Here are some topics that you might be wondering about when it comes to your custom closetconsultation.

Is My Custom Closet Consultation Really Free?

In a word, yes. It is completely free; one of our designers will go to your home to consult with you at no cost. The design is also free. There’s no obligation and we will give you time to decide whether to proceed. You don’t have to make a decision on the spot.

Do I Need to Clean Out My Closet for the Consultation?

In general, no. It will help your designer to see what you are storing in the space currently. You shouldn’t be embarrassed if your closet is messy. People with perfect closets that can hold all of their items are not usually the ones who seek out our services! We work every day with Ohio and Michigan homeowners who are struggling with clutter and need help, so we will not be judging you or your organization system. Instead, we will be looking at what you have to store and coming up with solutions for how you can store it more effectively.

With that being said, our designers do need to measure the space in order to determine the size of the products that will go in, so the closet or room should be accessible to someone who is measuring the dimensions.

What Types of Closet Components Will I Be Able to Get?

That’s completely up to you and your needs. If you are having a walk-in custom closet built, you will want and need different accessories and components than if you were having a linen closet built. We do not come in and put the same components in every closet (or in every child’s closet or in every hallway closet). Instead, we work with each homeowner to determine what will be best in their particular case.

Some of the components that you might consider include

  • Hanging rods . These are for hanging clothing or outerwear in most closets. You might elect to keep the one you currently have along the top of the space or you might want to have the rods double-hung so you can hang separates more easily.
  • Closet shelves . We can put these in various configurations to make it simple to put your items away. These are good for bedroom closets, walk-in closets, linen closets, and more.
  • Drawers . You might not think about drawers as being part of a closet, but they can come in very handy. You can store undergarments, hair accessories, toiletries, and just about anything else you can imagine.
  • Various accessories . The accessories you choose will depend on what you are storing. Bins and pull-out shelves are often useful in a kitchen pantry or a linen closet. Shoe racks are appropriate for a bedroom closet as well as an entryway closet.

Custom Storage Solutions has a lot of options and your designer will talk to you about them during your consultation.

How Much Will My Custom Closet Cost?

This is one of the most common questions, and the answer is that it varies widely. That is why we offer the free consultation; we want to be sure that we are providing you with the system that is right for you and your budget. Every closet is different and the cost depends on the components you choose, the size of your closet, and other factors.

Impeccable Closets in North Carolina recently published an article answering the question, How Much Do Custom Closets Cost? They talked about the different decisions you’ll make that will determine the final cost as well as considerations to keep in mind about how your closet can save you money. It’s worth a read!

What Does the Free Closet Design Entail?

Once your closet designer has measured your closet, looked at what you are storing, and asked you questions about how you want to use the space, he or she will use our 3D software to begin designing your new storage area. You’ll get to see what your closet will look like from the components you’ve picked to the finishes you try out. You can make changes and move things around until they are to your liking. At that point, you’ll receive your quote. You can take some time to decide that you want to proceed and book your appointment. A few weeks later (depending on our schedule and yours), you will have your installation appointment and all that’s left to do is enjoy your new custom closet!

If you are ready to get the ball rolling and schedule your free in-home consultation, contact Custom Storage Solutions. We will send out one of our storage experts and get you on track to having the well-organized home you have been dreaming of.
